Updated: Jun 29, 2021

Well, monsoons bring with them the most beautiful views of all the seasons. Who does not love to sing “Yeh Mausam Ki Barish… Yeh Barish Ka Paani..” and get all soaked up in the rain? But somehow, it has been five months of the nationwide lockdown and we have safely quarantined in the house. Our way of enjoying this year's monsoon need not be restricted to sitting in a cozy corner of the house, sipping the hot cup of chai or coffee. We have a fixed wardrobe now which is the same for Zoom meetings, Grocery shopping as well as sleeping. It's time to amp up your wardrobe with clothes suitable for never-stopping rainy days and a virtual meeting or a date.

So, you might think "Why do I need to even care about monsoon clothes when I hardly go out?" The importance of this monsoon checklist is not only to make you look confident but also to understand small details that will save your time in maintaining the clothes you wear. Since all of us know that clothes do not dry as fast as they dry in summer due to the moisture in the atmosphere, it's crucial to use suitable outfits. Of course, you would not want the shoes to soak up all the sweat and rainwater. Here is a checklist, which would let you deal with this quarantine monsoon with a swag of your own.

1. Ditch The Denim

Isn't it a shocker! Denim would be your safest bet always. Whenever you head out, you would switch it with your shorts and get going but now, it is a big NO. It's time to quarantine your 'Janam-Janam ka saathi' denim pants in your wardrobe as they absorb moisture faster. Wearing this in the rain will not only soak up water but also takes a very long time to dry, sometimes the sand or mud particles that get stuck at the ankle will create a permanent stain in your pants. Instead of them, you can try cotton shorts that look classy and suits best during the monsoon. If you are not into shorts then prefer cropped cotton pants which are lightweight and also dry faster. The best part is that cotton shorts or pants you can also wear for your Zoom meetings and it won't be out of place.

2. Brighten up your spirits

Monsoon brings with it a sense of lethargy and with the present situation of Covid-19, your spirit tends to be low most of the time. All you feel like doing is curling up in a cozy corner and binge-watch. However, reality asks more than that. With an office project to complete, a fitness oath to keep up, and staying focused on your goals, you will definitely need something to cheer you up. Why not let your clothes do the healing to recharge your fun-filled spirit. Monsoon opens the door to endless possibilities of prints and patterns that reflect your personality. So if you are planning to go by the bank or for a quick drive around the city to catch up with old buddies, wear bright colors like Teal, Salmon Red, Yellow, and so on. A printed shirt will keep you on track more than the boring worn-out t-shirt you wear every day while working from home.

3. Choose fabrics wisely

If you love the sophistication of denim but can't wear them due to the heavy nature, choose Chambray. These chambray shirts look like denim but are light in nature. They are perfect to attend a presentation, to walk your dog out, and even more comfortable to sleep in. Make sure you keep the outfits that have heavy fabrics like corduroy, denim, leather, or any other wool blend inside your wardrobe. Switch to cotton comforts, linens, polyester, and nylons as they have very low moisture regain capacity. Overall, keep in mind to go light and avoid layering.

4. Leather is not the best for this weather

For all the sneakerheads and leather lovers, this season it is important to NOT flaunt your precious collection in the rain. Be it belts or watches, keep them safely covered in your wardrobe, as there are chances that they might have a mildew attack due to the moisture in the environment. It is best to clear the wardrobe and check all your valuables before tucking it again. Crocs and Flip-flops should be your choice. When celebs can make them cool why not you? Wear rubber sole shoes or sandals when you are going for a walk around your neighborhood with a mask on or going for a haircut. You should definitely opt for sturdy footwear that has a rubber sole as it won't let you slip so easily and does not absorb water which makes it easy to clean.

5. Looks matter the most

Monsoon is all about fizzy hair, itchy beard and foul odor. You are at home most of the time and your beard is covered by the mask when you are out. However, personal hygiene matters the most. You have to have a grooming routine for yourself, not because someone judges you. In this quarantine, you have an ample amount of time to dedicate to grooming. The clean-shaven look is the easiest to maintain but, if you dare to keep the beard then it needs constant care. Make sure you use deodorant and take a bath every day. Just remember, don't go overboard with styles during the monsoons because too many layers would be hassling, and keep up with an efficient grooming routine. There are a few more things that you can carry during monsoons. With this checklist, you are completely equipped to face the rains and make it dramatic with a touch of Bollywood. Rock the monsoons with an open heart and appropriate attire. Welcome the monsoons with a style of your own as a little effort goes a long way.
